Pancakes

Do you remember the old recipe for pancakes? Mom taught it to us: 2, 2, 1, 1/2

2 cups of flour
2 cups of milk
1 egg
1/2 teaspon of baking powder.

Mom and Robyn had gone up to girls camp. (It was Robyn's first year as a Beehive, so that would make it 1965.) That left the rest of us at home. Dad was working all day at Acme Building Products. He asked me to fix some pancakes for supper.

I thought I had this one nailed! After all, I knew the recipe: 2, 2, 1, 1/2. So I mixed up the pancakes and they were ready to go when Dad got home from work. They were a bit more fluffy than I remembered them being in times past.

We sat down to eat. Dad took a pancake, buttered it, and put syrup on. He took one bite, and then looked at me in a strange way.

I asked him what was wrong. He invited me to taste one. I did.

1/2 teaspoon of baking powder - not 1/2 tablespoon!

I did not ever know that... or at least i do not remember having that knowledge. I made pancakes once when mom was away and when dad tasted it he just opened the door and threw the pancake out into the yard. The dog...I believe it was chocolate ran for it, carried it away and burried it.

This is such a funny story! I could just picture Grandpa throwing the cake out the door.

I think my dad would have done the same thing.

i was attempting to make pancakes from scratch one day, and accidently confused baking powder and baking soda.... the pancakes came out tasting like pretzels without the salt lol
