Makeup & Nail polish
Mom told me that one time early on when her and dad were dating that she had gotten all gussied up. Dad came to pick her up and shortly after their departure he pulled over and asked her to get out of the car. He then proceeded to wash all of her makup off in the snow. Next he held her down and scraped all of the nail polish off her fingernails with his pocket knife. Then...although I cannot remember his exactly what his choice of words was ..he let her know that all of that I believe "warpaint" nonsense was not necessary.

I remember that story as well.
I guess Dad and Mom came to an understanding early-on that what was real was good.
