Yellow Shirts and Grandpa at Christmastime

Like Teresa, I didn't get to grow up near Grandma and Grandpa . . . so my memories of them are few and far between.
I do remember a few family reunions that we were able to attend . . . most notably the one where all us grandkids were wearing yellow teeshirts. :)
My favourite memory though is of Grandpa's last Christmas . . . (well, it was in early December of 1992 probably). I was invited down to BYU for a "preview week", and was able to combine it into a mini-holiday to see the Rees family there in the Salt Lake Valley.
I remember a crazy game of White Elephant exchange with a whole passel of cousins at Aunt Connie's house. Afterwards, I remember going into the kitchen/dining room to do something-or-other . . . and Grandpa called me over to him. Grandpa was always a man of very few words, and he didn't say much then . . . just gave me a hug . . . and we just sat together for a while . . . There was so much love in that hug and silence . . . I'll never ever forget it!
That was the last time any of my immediate family saw Grandpa in reasonably good health. He was gone about 6 months later. I feel priviledged to this day to have had the opportunity to share that moment with the Grandpa I never got to know well.

Thanks, Kate.

I am sorry that you never had the chance to know my parents well.

I remember the yellow shirts too.... I never thought that I would get them all ready in time.

Katie may remember this, one year Grandma and Grandpa gave us all matching " Hee-Haw" overalls. they were my favorite pants for forever.Funny, how a small thing like a bit of cloth or simple moment of silence can convey so much love.

After receiving the yellow shirts I remember going to Disneyland as a family, it was crazy everyone but dad had a yellow shirt with our name on it.
