Respect for Women Especially Mom.

Dad was a man of high principle. The principle of respect for our mother and women in general was well understood by each of us.
I remember the day I was taught this lesson...one sunny day when i was probably five years old. I say five because I know that I was the only child still at home. Mom told me that we were going to have a special lunch that day because dad was coming home for lunch. I don't remember what we ate but I remember sitting on a blanket by the lilac tree in the shade of the big tree on the south west corner. Me, Mom, and Dad, When lunch was over mom asked me to pick up the dishes and take them into the house. I stood up and flatly refused. It was then that I saw Dad start to get up..... I took flight. How I thought that I could out-run Dad is beyond me... But I suppose all children feel this way. Needless to say he caught me in about 3 strides. I felt his firm grasp on my arm, the toe of his boot on my butt, and then I felt myself rising in the air with both feet off of the ground. Dad's grip on my arm never released and when I had both feet on the ground again he turned me around to face him and said. "Your mother asked you do to something, let this be a lesson that you will never speak to your mother like that as long as I am alive. Now go clean up those dishes and appologize to your mother."

So like Dad! Do you remember our Thanksgiving tradition? Mom would cook a fantastic dinner; Dad and the boys would cleanup the kitchen.
