I am not sure which christmas it was... the year that the older kids got the stereo... I think Robyn got a Jan Howard Record.. I think that Darrell got Marty Robins. Ken did you get Herb Albert & the Tihuana Brass? What did Joe get? anyway, The "little kids", Craig, Keven and I got Games and a game chest, and the Family got the Ping-Pong Table.
Anyway, leading up to christmas after school craig, keven and I had to sand on this long box that dad had built. We kept asking dad what it was for and he said it was his cofin. I don't remember feeling shocked or dismayed so I suppose that I knew that he was not telling us the truth. Anyway it turned out to be a game chest. It was painted a light blue and had a white and blue checker board painted in the center and there was enough room to sit on each end if we straddled it like a horse. We played for hours and hours with those games.
Dad had also made the ping pong Table ... anyone remember how heavy that thing was? the older kids had to hold the table up while the younger kids fitted the pipes into the sockets underneath.
After this was built it also served as the thanksgiving table. Talk about holding a lot of food. I believe that it was 4 feet wide and 10-12 feet long... but I am not sure. It seemed huge to me.

It was a very large table. I remember playing for hours and hours on that ping-pong table. We listened to the stereo while we played. I did get a Herb Alpert record. I loved that record. I wonder what I did with it? I know that I don't have it now.
I remember this too. Yes, Dad did say it was a coffin. What you haven't mentioned is that before it was a box... It was just wood that Dad asked us to sand and paint. "What are we doing this for..."
Joe doesn't remember what he got either. but he does remember helping to make the game box and the table.
